UFVA and CSM Fair Use and Free Speech Contest Winner!

CRITICAL MEDIA DVD

This DVD showcases a class project, coordinated by Bettina Fabos, in which students applied journalistic research, analytical critical skills, video production and graphic design to critique popular culture. The students quoted popular films, television and music, employing both the principles and limitations of the first category-media critique-Documentary Filmmakers' Statement of Best Practices in Fair Use. The project would have been impossible without their judicious employment of fair use. This project, rooted in a journalism program, provides a model for how to teach both critical skills and appropriate fair use in the classroom.
