Beyond Broadcast: Reinventing Public Media in a Participatory Culture Rapporteur Report 2006
email discuss Barbara Abrash
Read the Rapporteur Report from Beyond Broadcast: Reinventing Public Media in a Participatory Culture, an event co-organized by the Center on May 12-13, 2006 on the future of public media in an open digital environment. It was an open conference following on the Center’s initial convening, Digital Media and the Public Sphere.
Traditional public media—public broadcasting, cable access television, public satellite channels—face a unique opportunity to embrace new participatory web-based media models—podcasting, video blogs, social software—and create a stronger and more vital public service. The conference was an opportunity for innovators and leaders in public media on any platform to meet and find out how others are experimenting.
The report includes:
- emerging funding models for public and commercial media
- an overview of public sites and public values in commerical media
- challenges and opportunities for public media
Visit the Beyond Broadcast conference wiki for full details on the conference proceedings and additional materials. You can also contribute to the Center’s Beyond Broadcast blog.
