Cristina
Goettsch Mittermeier is a Mexican marine
biologist with a degree in biochemical engineering from the Monterrey
Institute of Technological and Advanced Studies (ITESM). She has
carried fieldwork in the Yucatán Península and the
Gulf of California in México and has visited 40 countries
to pursue her interests in conservation and photography. She is
fluent in Spanish, English and Portuguese, and she is also a professional
SCUBA diver.
She has coauthored several scientific articles on
conservation of terrestrial and marine biodiversity and is coauthor
of five coffee-table books -- Megadiversity, Hotspots, Wilderness,
Wildlife Spectacles and the soon-to-be-released Hotspots II-- that
aim to showcase different conservation strategies for global biodiversity.
She is currently pursing a career in photography,
studying at the Corcoran College for the Arts in Washington, D.C.
and she serves in the Board of Directors of Nature’s Best
Photography Foundation and as Director of Communications of Nature’s
Best Photography Magazine, both based in Great Falls/McLean, VA

Since 1991 Cristina has been living in Great
Falls, VA with her husband, Russ Mittermeier, who is President of
Conservation International, a Washington DC-based organization dedicated
