Anand Patwardhan is a leading social action filmmaker in India, where his work on subjects including poverty, peace, development and citizen activism have been shown on television and contributed to social movements. His remarks were delivered to a film festival audience attending the International Documentary Conference held in conjunction with the Silverdocs Documentary Film Festival on June 16, 2004. The event was co-sponsored by the World Bank and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting.
