Film Screenings and More as Part of Katzen Museum’s New Exhibit

As part of the“Ricardo Calero. Goya. Disparates….Continuity of an unfinished project” exhibit running from September 2 through October 26th at American University’s Katzen Museum, a number of film screenings and other events will be held. These will include:

Film screening of Invisibles (Invisible), Monday, September 8. A series of five short films examining the world’s overlooked problems and the people who suffer from them. Produced by Oscar-winning actor, Javier Bardem, this film is also the winner for best documentary in the Goya Awards 2007. (Location and time TBD)

Spanish Embassy film screening of Faith in Chaos, a short documentary about the aftermath and desperation of war in Sierra Leone as well as the hope of its survivors through both video and photographer Pep Bonet’s camera. Special guest, Pep Bonet, will speak after the film. Wednesday, September 10, 6–7 p.m., in the Katzen Arts Center, Abramson Family Recital Hall. Co-sponsored by the Embassy of Spain, AU School of Communication and the Center for Social Media.

Screening of Spanish Film Festival Shorts From Kimuak 1998-2006 with special guest film director Jose Maria Goenaga, Wednesday, Sept. 17, 6:00-8 p.m., American University Wechsler Theater. Co-sponsored by the Embassy of Spain and AU School of Communication.

On Tuesday, October 7th, The Spanish Embassy presents a screening of Mekong Butterflies, a documentary about human trafficking and sex slaves from the Mekong River region of Burma, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam. Her name, Leanaa, means “fate” in her native Cambodian language. She was sold into sex slavery, but she managed to escape. Now she’s on her way back to find the three friends she left behind in the brothel -and to help set them free. The screening will be from 6-9pm in the Abramson Family Recital Hall.
