Social Action Media Showcase


The Center will present four feature films and several shorts that explore man's relationship to the environment in partnership with the DC Environmental Film Festival. For the second year, Jasmina Bojic will present selections from the United Nations Association Film Festival. Also, on Saturday March 27, Center co-director Pat Aufderheide will moderate a panel of filmmakers and experts on how to use film effectively in environmental action.

Mittermeier has coauthored several scientific articles on conservation of terrestrial and marine biodiversity and is coauthor of five coffee-table books -- Megadiversity, Hotspots, Wilderness, Wildlife Spectacles and the soon-to-be-released Hotspots II-- that aim to showcase different conservation strategies for global biodiversity. The Center is proud to continue to host the UNAFF Traveling Festival, and a full-house at the screenings of Empty Oceans, Empty Nets and The Shaman's Apprentice.

Lens at Work Panel Discussion:
Successful Environmental Filmmaking

Panelists included Holly Stadtler (filmmaker), Robert Brewster (filmmaker); Jeff Bieber (WETA); Andrea Meditch (Discovery); Christopher Palmer (National Wildlife Federation); and moderated by Center co-director Pat Aufderheide

These leading industry professionals discussed what strategies they are using to tell compelling stories, and getting films to people who can make a difference!
