Media That Matters Festival

email   discuss Posted by Alison Hanold on Jun 5, 2009 at 2:32 PM

I had the great pleasure to attend the premiere of the ninth annual Media that Matters festival, presented by Arts Engine. The festival is comprised of 12 short films with a social justice focus. The films were various in their formats – some documentary, some narrative, some PSA, and even one "docu-music video." One particular favorite of mine was the narrative film Immersion" which told the story of a young Mexican boy in a US school. The boy is very skilled at math, but does not have a solid understanding of the language used in the math problems in his class. He has a strong desire to pass the state required test, but his request for a translated test exposes flaws in the public school system. Immersion can be viewed with the other 11 films here. Keep an eye out for the festival as it will be traveling across the globe with stops in Seattle, Rome, Detroit, Philadelphia, DC, and more. View the Events Calendar
