Announcing the release of our new video, Remix Culture: Fair Use is Your Friend

email   discuss Posted by Alison Hanold on May 18, 2009 at 12:39 PM

Last summer the release of the Code of Best Practices in Fair Use for Online Video nearly crashed our servers with people downloading the document. Based on this demand, we created Remix Culture: Fair Use Is Your Friend is a collaboration with the Program on Information Justice and Intellectual Property—a program of AU’s Washington College of Law—along with Stanford Law School’s Fair Use Project. The video was funded by Google.

The video was directed by our graduate fellow, Claire Darby, and features interviews with Dr. Mitzuko Ito, research director of the University of California Humanities Research Institute and Anthony Falzone, executive director of the Stanford Law School’s Fair Use Project.

"This video lets people know about the code, an essential creative tool, in the natural language of online video. The code protects this emerging zone from censorship and self-censorship," said Aufderheide, director of the Center for Social Media. "Creators, online video providers, and copyright holders will be able to know when copying is stealing and when it’s legal."

The press release is available here. Be sure to spread the word because, as Peter Jaszi says, if you don’t use fair use, you lose it.
