Pubcasters and community engagement

Posted by Patricia Aufderheide on Aug 18, 2008 at 7:13 PM

Whether you’re in public broadcasting or not, it’s worth it to take a look at the just-posted remarks of National Center for Outreach director Maria Alvarez Stroud on trends in community engagement (made at the Public Radio Development and Marketing Conference), are fascinating. She takes note of several hot trends, including corporate social responsibility, and says, “One of public broadcasting’s greatest assets is our foundation of rich and varied relationships with citizens. While corporations may be seizing community engagement as an opportunity to sell, it is our job after all is to keep it real, to keep it focused on what citizens need and want, and to keep community front and center.” NCO has a wealth of resources both documenting public broadcasting engagement and helping those who want to launch a project.
