Staff Bios Matthew Gordon

Matthew Gordon is a graduate fellow at American University’s Center for Social Media and an M.F.A. candidate in Film and Electronic Media focusing on producing and directing documentary.

Prior to coming to American, he studied film and video editing at The Edit Center in New York where he worked on the feature films Garbage Dreams and Sorry, Thanks. He has also worked as a motion graphics artist, additional camera person and assistant editor on the feature documentary Circus Dreams and as post production intern on the ITVS documentary Animas Perdidas.

A former member of the Harvard Square Screenwriters and Washington DC’s Playwrights forum, his screenplays and teleplays have advanced to the semi-finals and quarter-finals of multiple screenwriting competitions including The Big Bear Lake Screenwriting Competition, the Slamdance Screenplay Competition, the Page International Screenwriting Awards, the Filmmakers International Screenwriting Awards, and the Austin heart of Film competition.

In addition to filmmaking and writing, Matthew has worked at the non-profit Teaching, Learning and Technology Group, most recently leading online workshops for university faculty and staff on the use of Twitter and other social networking tools in higher education. An advocate for arts and environmental education, Matthew also spent many summers working at a residential arts camp and as a trip leader at a wilderness adventure program for children and teens.

He holds a B.A. in German Culture Studies from Guilford College in Greensboro, North Carolina with minors in Biology and English.
