COMM 515.001 Children's Media
Steve Heyer, president and Chief Operating Officer, Turner Broadcasting, talking about Cartoon Network:

"It’s not just a network, it’s become a brand. And it’s not just a brand, it’s a business with unlimited opportunities for brand extensions. And it’s a very ad friendly environment.”

This is a class in children's television and related media, and through that prism, about the importance of media in children’s lives and the importance of children in the information/ entertainment industries.

We will be asking questions about the production of digital media for and reception of this media by children 12 and under. We will explore the role of government in shaping children's media environment, and the responsibility and opportunities of parents, teachers and viewers themselves.

We will do all this not only by looking at television and new media, and by reading academic and journalistic work, but also by practical exercises in product design and by critical viewing.
